Statement of Intent

Selected Brief: 3 - Magazine.

My intentions for my coursework, I have chosen the Current Affair Magazines brief (brief 3) where I will create 2 front covers and 2 contents pages for editions of my deliberately-name product ‘Theory.io’. The name refers to my sole belief in the fact that I believe most parts of mainstream media and news should be questioned - this in-turn should intrigue interested parties with the same paradigm. Furthermore, I will also spend time developing a well written, easy-to-understand digital website which reaches out to a virtual audience. In order to meet the requirements of my brief, I needed to carry out specific research within my genre, and what other firms were operating as competition. So, an example of what I did, was analyse previous financial crash magazine editions (from successful competitors who share the same ideologies as theory.io) This includes the design, photos and representation of the magazine. For my first edition of the magazine I will be employing intertextual features, for example, a magazine edition that was published in the Great Depression, consisted of a wealthy man stepping into an ex-wealthy man’s car (purchasing it) due to the man losing all of his money during the recession. The colour theme will be black and white, for two reasons. Firstly, it reveals that history repeats itself, and with the use of black and white, it reflects the past. Secondly, it corroborates the solemn mood of the topic it itself. In addition, for the second edition I will design a imagine which consists of a ‘conspiracy theorist’ (linking to the name of the brand) holding the virus in his hand, without a mask. This constant denial of the common ideology on certain things such as the virus could stimulate a lot of debate, which is what I am interested to see will happen. As my target audience is aged ranged 16-64 for A and B groups, I will employ very aesthetically pleasing mise en scene, which can be seen to be of a higher price, therefore enticing the audience even further. In addition, they style of  theory.io is inspired by my viewpoints on life, which will be reflected throughout my whole coursework. Meanwhile, whilst creating this design I will employ sophisticated styles and formal fonts (serif). What I am really striving for with both of my magazine issues is to truly try and fill a gap, an unbuilt bridge between audiences, consumers with the same ideologies as I actually haven’t found a magazine near enough as similar to theory.io - therefore the connection I hope to develop between consumers and theory.io itself strives to be a good one. This will be reflected through the model’s body language & mise en scene. In addition, to sustain audience retention, digital media is the most popular use of media as of now, therefore the both magazines will consist of the theory.io website. In conclusion, I will be employing an array of media language and representations, and tinges of intertextuality to further engage readers and to reflect my passion and the viewpoints of  Theory.io.
