Institutions
In this post I will be researching the media institutions linked to my chosen brief, paying particular attention to the type of company they are and the type of media products they produce. I will also be looking into how the company ethos is reflected in their products, this will give me a ideas on how I can incorporate this into my own production of both the main task and the website. I think by understanding the institution linked to my chosen brief, it will enable me to produce a media text that follows and reflects their style, ideologies and ethos more effectively.
This post will entail of institutional research that I've completed that is linked to my brief. The institution that i'll be researching is Dennis Publishing. I will be focusing on the types of media products they produce and why. Their goals and ethics are something that I will dig deeper into in order to help me develop my magazine and my website. Not only will it support my ideas on what I already have planned, but it'll help me convey my ideologies more effectively.
The company's name is Dennis Publishing, they were funded in 1974, and they are funded by investors, and the media types they produce are print and online media types. The company itself is independent and is a parent company. The brands the Dennis Publishing is involved with are The Big Issue & The Week. These are 2 brands which I have also thoroughly studied, in terms of their products.
This company generates revenue by publishing texts by other companies and selling products (magazines). in 2016, DP made £16Mn in commerce revenue. They also make money from the advertisements in magazines which can cost up to £2000 per week.
The mission and goal for Dennis Publishing is to become the most dynamic media institution in the UK.
