Intertextuality
"In this Intertextuality research task I will be looking at how a range of media products in the category of 'magazine' use intertextuality to appeal to a wide range of audiences. I will also be highlighting what makes these references to other media texts effective"
Intertextuality is when a media text makes reference to another media text. This technique is used to play on the audience's current knowledge. In Vanity Fair, there was a clear intertextuality to the music video in which Christina Aguilera was a 'sexy captain.' This was a very popular music video, so both fans of Nicole Kidman and Christina Aguilera would be inclined to read this magazine, and maybe even recommend it if they enjoy it.
