Representations

In this post, I will be carrying out research in relation to media language and media representations in current affairs magazines. This, ultimately will assist me in creating my own current affairs magazine by giving me a range of paradigms to follow for when i do create it.

The Week demonstrates it's left-wing inclination by portraying Trump, who is right-wing, as a predator. The way they do this, is by the illustration of the opposites, man smiling, woman statue looking horrified, during a bad act. The use of the statue of liberty in this image opposes the statue's main purpose - freedom. The representation of Trump doing this to the statue reflects The Week's view on Trumps campaign - a hinderance of freedom.

The representation of Kanye West in The Critic magazine front cover is one of glorification. The Critic's political affiliation is right wing, which glorifies republicans and pro-trump supporters. West is presented as 'Jesus' whom, according to Christianity, is the lord and saviour. This implies that Trump (the badges that Jesus Kanye is wearing) & Kanye's presidentship will save the United States of America via the media representations used.
