NEA Planning task 2 - My Mood Board

I chose brief 3 - current affairs magazine. I am required to produce two front covers and 2 contents pages.

My target audience, age wise, is 16-64 and is aimed at social grades A & B.

In this task I'll explore different types of images, fonts and colours to use in my magazine, such as black and white for issue 1, and serif fonts such as Times New Roman.  I shall be looking at different connotations & symbolisms, alongside intertextuality and how these affect the way my target audience might view my product. I am aiming to build a strong relationship with the audience and theory.io (magazine).  By creating this mood board I will also be exploring creative ways of how to present my work, and it will help me in what images I must edit and how to edit them too.

(I am unable to add the pictures of the mood boards for some reason, so I added the link where you can access them).

  • How did they helped you define content for your products?
As my theme revolves around the financial markets crashing & coronavirus, I was able to find many connotations such as black and white being a recurring theme, pinstripe suits, cars and money. All of this, has of course been impacted by the Coronavirus.
  • What will be your overall colour scheme of your productions?
Black and White for issue 1. Green and Beige for Issue 2.
  • What kind of images/shots would you use in your productions?
Long shot of model wearing a pinstripe suit, which is commonly seen here, I will also be intertextual with issue 1. Issue two will be a close up of a hand/hands holding a virus molecule.
  • What kind of fonts would you use in your productions?
Serif for sure, as finance is an upper-class sport.
  • What kind of mise-en-scene would you use in your productions?
Pinstripe suits, a car, a cardboard square with writing on it (intertextual).
  • What kind of intertextuality would you use in your productions?
The intertextuality I will be employing comes from an old issue in the 1929 financial crash papers, hence why I have added pictures of 1929 financial institutions during the crash.
  • Which media theory(ies) are you likely to use in your productions?
Barthes Semiotics.
